Bike Build Kits: The Devil is in the Details

Alchemy has long been known for creating exceptionally-crafted rolling art. But these days, it’s not just Alchemy frames grabbing riders’ attention. Alchemy is quickly gaining a reputation for its complete bike builds. Alchemy offers the highest dollar-for-dollar value in bicycles, and we sweat the details. We know that you want to ride. And we only use parts we would ride ourselves. Our build kits are a powerful testament to the belief.

Factory Fox Suspension

Let’s face it: if you’re considering buying an Alchemy mountain bike, this isn’t your first rodeo. One thing we’re certain: our fans appreciate is that all Alchemy mountain bikes — from the GX Eagle level and up — feature Fox Factory Kashima-coated suspension. Fox has found Kashima to be the smoothest, most durable suspension finish available. But we don’t just stop there. All Fox Float Air DPX2 piggy-back shocks have been custom-tuned. We use the Grip 2 damper on all the forks as our way to ensure you’re getting the best performance possible on the trail.

A Made in the USA Partnership

ENVE Composites has long been a valued Alchemy partner, and it makes sense. Both companies have a heritage in hand-crafted, US-made products that offer category defining performance. It should come as no surprise that Alchemy bikes feature a bevy of ENVE parts. But the real kicker is the high value of an Alchemy, even compared to the biggest bike brands out there. As an example, our complete Shimano Ultegra Di2 Atlas road bike features ENVE bar, stem, and wheels, and is $2000 less other brand's Asian-made road bikes.

The Devil is in the Details

If you’ve been doing a bit of bike shopping lately, you know about the shimmering diamond effect. At first glance, a bike might look flawless. But when start studying the details, you notice low-end parts mixed in to save cost. It’s usually just a set of plasticy, no-namer grips, and a saddle on which no human would dare place their posterior. At Alchemy, we use only high-end, high-value components. As an example, even our SRAM NX Eagle build is using DT Swiss M1700 wheels. We know and trust these wheels. The M1700s feature the Spline 35 pawl ratchet system and hub (a must for quick engagement). We also use DMR Deathgrip grips and WTB Volt Race saddles, brand-name aftermarket products that are proven to carry you the distance.

Real Comparisons, Real Value

To truly understand the value of our build kits, a head-to-head comparison versus our competition is essential. A good example would be Alchemy’s SRAM GX Eagle-equipped Arktos 29 ST. At $5199, the Arktos 29 ST is in the meat of the GX Eagle price points. But let’s drill down to some of the details. The Yeti SB130 GX Eagle bike starts at $5399. Although the prices are similar, the Yeti build features entry-level Fox Performance suspension and DT Swiss M1900 wheels, (with lower end DT 370 hub and ratchet system). The Ibis Ripley GX Eagle bike is also $5399, but uses Ibis’ own aluminum wheelset and hubs, Fox Performance suspension, and Ibis branded bar and stem. To be honest, it’s not even a fair fight: Alchemy wins hands down. Better wheels, better suspension, and better attention to the details that are going to make a difference in your everyday ride.

The Alchemy Difference

If you look closely at each Alchemy complete bike, it’s easy to see the bikes are put together by real riders, for real riders. There’s no skimping, no afterthought products, nothing but components that are proven to deliver quality, performance, and durability. We sweat the details to ensure to make your experience is nothing but great. For more proof on the work that goes into every bike, check out the story on the development of the Arktos 29 »
